The New Jersey Chapter and the World Film
Society of Bergen Community College will co-host a showing and a
discussion of the film “Moj Nikifor. Produced in 2004, this film
has won numerous awards and tells the story of the last few year’s
of this self-taught, illiterate Lemko naive artist of Krynica. He
was born in a stable by his Deaf and mute mother and inherited his
mother’s disability of having his tongue attached to his palate that
made him unable to produce understandable speech.
The film is told from the viewpoint of a
struggling young artist who becomes Nikifor’s caretaker, sacrificing
his own career and family life. The 97 minute film is in Polish
with English subtitles.

Directions: From northbound Garden State
Parkway, take Exit 160 towards Fair Lawn. At the bottom of the exit
ramp, turn left onto Passaic Street which becomes Paramus Road and
go 2.3 miles to the college. Turn right and proceed to the main
academic building (Section A, Parking Lot B). From southbound
Garden State Parkway, take Exit 166 toward Westwood/Washington Twp.
Turn right onto Highland Avenue and proceed to Linwood Avenue. Turn
left on Linwood and go 1 mile to Paramus Road. Turn left on Paramus
Road and go 2 miles to the college. Turn left and proceed to the
main academic building (Section A, Parking Lot B). From Manhattan,
take New Jersey Transit Bus # 163 that stops at the main entrance to
the College.
