The New Jersey Chapter will host aTenth Anniversary Celebration”

Sunday, October 18, 2009 at 1 PM

at

The First National Russian Hall
4-6 Woodhull Avenue
Little Falls, NJ

At its Tenth Anniversary Celebration luncheon, the New Jersey Chapter will present its “Golden Valashka” award to Jerry Jumba for his considerable efforts to preserve Rusyn culture, including its language, songs, dances and Carpathian plainchant (prostipiniie) in his work as a cantor in both Byzantine Catholic and Orthodox churches.  He has also been a pioneer in Rusyn radio, hosting the first regularly scheduled Carpatho-Rusyn program in the United States on WEDO in McKeesport, PA beginning in 1997.

Plan to join us as we watch the dance troupe, ‘Luc(h)ka’, comprised of youngsters ages 4-10, perform Rusyn songs and dances.  After receiving his award, Jerry will entertain attendees by singing and playing many of our favorite Rusyn folk songs.

Books and other ethnic items of interest will be available for purchase.  A commemorative booklet will be provided to all those who attend the festivities, as well as to those who show their support of the New Jersey Chapter by taking an ad in the booklet to express their good wishes.  For further information about the event, please call Joyce Barr at (973) 540-0871 or send an e-mail to her at njpres@c-rs.org. To purchase an ad, please download the form that follows this announcement.

During the ten years of its existence, the New Jersey Chapter has produced more than fifty programs celebrating our Carpatho-Rusyn heritage, without any duplication.  It has also hosted kermesh picnics, participated in numerous heritage day festivities, and has presented many library and other cultural outreach displays.  Many of its programs have been recorded and have been made available for purchase by other chapters and by individuals who have an interest in the programs, but are unable to personally attend a presentation.  Requests for these recordings have come from all parts of the country including Alaska.
